As an artist, self-motivation is extremely important. It is critical to continue learning new techniques, improving my craft and connecting with my customers.

One way I this is exhibiting at art fairs and shows. Seeing the work of other artists I admire stimulates my creativity. I get new ideas for presentation, subjects and reviews of professional workshops.

Meeting the customer in person, without the gallery as my representative, allows me to see their reaction to my latest work. I hear what they love, hate or wish I had for sale. When several buyers all express interest in the same work I know I have found a subject to pursue further.

Artists need time alone to produce their work and follow their muse. But it is also important to connect with your clients and immerse yourself in the marketplace.

This was a great blog Tom, very informative. Something that I can "sink my teeth into", run with and apply it to my everyday social networking. Thanks for the insights!
